Am I the only one who thinks tht lights up (filmed aug 2019) is about harry getting comfortable enough to make the kind of music HE wanted to make and self discovery in tht regard rather than being comfortable in his sexuality? Everyone makes it about sexuality but harry’s never said what aspects of himself he accepted and discovered about himself. He first talked about not needing to label his sexuality in 2017 so I feel like he had already become comfortable in that by the time he made fine line so lights up/the album making process for fine line might not be about him becoming comfortable in his sexuality. He also wrote medicine when he still had long hair according to the white board with a song to-do list from the album/cd booklet for his first album and that’s the song that reveals most about his sexuality. Lights up could also be him accepting the bad parts of himself that he struggles with in Falling too. Idk. Someone on Twitter said lights up is a coming out song and that hes unlabeled but he already "came out" as unlabeled back in 2017. But is what he said in 2017 abt not feeling like [his sexuality] is something he has to explain really "coming out" as unlabeled anyway? Then in 2019 for The Face mag he said hes never started to label himself so how is that "coming out" cuz if you dont label your sexuality, then do you really "come out"? So I dont think lights up is about sexuality long story short. He seemed like his self acceptance surrounding that topic was already addressed way before he wrote lights up. It was one of the last songs written for Fine Line album so I guess it was written in 2019. Lights up came after a period of self reflection and acceptance according to harry but that doesnt necessarily mean anything sexuality related. He talks abt deciding to make the music HE wants to make nd redefining success for himself more than anything during the interviews for fine line so that doesnt point to sexuality stuff.
